06/2002 - 08/2002 Reproductive Genetics Division, Hutzel Hospital Summer Intern, Dr. Anthony Johnson Observed a range of fetal diagnostic and genetic testing procedures. Assisted with patient interviews and genetic consultation. Performed literature searches on diverse genetic disorders and 3D ultrasonography. Poster presentation at the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, San Francisco, CA,, Comparison of multifetal pregnancy reduction with and without chorionic villus sampling on pregnancy outcomes.
01/2000 - 04/2001 Developmental Neuroendocrinology Lab, University of Michigan Research Assistant, Dr. Robert Denver Observed the effects of thyroid hormone treatment on receptors in Xenopus laevis tadpoles during metamorphosis. Dissected tadpoles and frogs for removal of the hypothalamus. Performed cryostat sectioning of tadpole brains' for in situ hybridization and immunocytochemistry staining of tissue specimens.
06/1999 - 07/2001 Obstetric Anesthesia, University of Michigan Health System Research Assistant, Dr. Linda Polley Consented women in labor for a epidural research study. Informed patients about the purpose and method of the study. Gathered vital statistics of the patient and fetus during delivery. Checked patient's level of anesthetic relief.
09/1997 - 04/1998 Plastic Surgery, University of Michigan Health System Research assistant, Dr. Andrew Rosenthal, Dr. Steven Buchman Sponsored by the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program. Stained and sectioned parts of rabbit craniofacial bone encased in hard plastic. Collected data through point-count histologic analysis of osteogenic bone. Performed threedimensional rotations of micro-computed scans of rabbit skulls.

Assisted Ann Rogers, R.N., Ph.D., and organized results concerning a double-blind placebo drug study to promote wakefulness in narcoleptics. Observed patient interaction at University of Michigan Medical Center Sleep Clinic and Laboratory. Conducted a research project pertaining to the relationship between the Maintenance of Wakefulness Test and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale.

Volunteer Experience
05/2003 - 06/2005 School of Medicine Student Senate Class Representative, Curriculum & Constitution Chair The purpose of the Student Senate is to represent the medical school student body to the administration of Wayne State University School of Medicine, main campus of Wayne State University, Detroit Medical Center, and to the community. We discuss and investigate any and all issues of interest to the student body and implement specific courses of action resulting from discussion of ideas and concerns brought to the Senate as advocates of the student body. In particular, the Senate provides and actively recruits channels of communication from the student body to the faculty and administration on student-related issues. Members organize and facilitate student participation in school-related programs and school policies. We actively explore and promote non-academic program activities for student projects supported by the Senate subcommittees.
08/2002 - 11/2002 Health FOCUS, Children's Hospital of Michigan Volunteer
This is an organization of medical students, physicians, residents and administrators representing a unique collaboration between WSU-SOM, Children's Hospital of Michigan, and the Detroit Medical Center. The annual Health FOCUS conference provides community organizations, health care professionals and others intimately involved with child welfare an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges involved in improving the health care of children in urban settings, and to focus their combined efforts in meeting children's needs effectively. Medical students are intrinsically involved in the development, planning, funding and continuation of this conference, as well as other projects to promote urban children health.
08/2002 - 06/2003 Safewalk Coordinator
As an integral aspect of campus safety, the Safewalk service provides individuals with the means to increase their personal safety. SafeWalk is a student-run volunteer organization that provides on-campus walking escorts for Wayne State University School of Medicine. Trained student members will walk or drive individuals to their destination.
08/2001 - 06/2003 STD/AIDS Prevention Program Coordinator
STD/AIDS is a national community outreach program. Its emphasis is on educating middle and high school students on the importance of contraception and dispelling myths involving pregnancy, STDs and AIDS. Training is provided so that students may present issues of contraception, STDs and AIDS to Detroit students. Outlines, slides, and pamphlets are provided. Three visits are usually planned with informal classroom presentations. Coordinators are responsible for contacting school administrators and setting up all three sessions.
06/1999 - 05/2001 Young Asian Women's Health Organization (YAWHO)
Founder YAWHO's mission is to encourage the Asian American community to take an active role in their health care. In order to raise health awareness, YAWHO organizes guest speaker events, writes a column for a campus magazine, and collaborates with other ethnic and health organizations.
Hobbies & Interests I enjoy cooking; origami; reading; yoga; ballroom dancing; music; jewelry design; watching football and basketball.
